The new school embodies the concept of a “village,” composed of interconnected volumes akin to houses linked together amidst open spaces, each serving a unique purpose.
Nestled in Marene’s heart, this school village crafts a diverse, organic landscape, harmonizing distinct volumes that intricately blend interior and exterior spaces, delineating both private nooks and communal areas open to an extended community. The design connects the historic core – denser – with the fabric – more fragmented – of the more recently built areas. The school’s distinct “houses,” unified under pitched roofs, form a continuous architectural thread, echoing Marene’s surrounding built environment while harmoniously standing out as a remarkable addition. The ground floor boasts full permeability, featuring expansive windows that foster visual connectivity among various school sections. A pedestrian “passage” effortlessly links the northern and southern ends.
Classrooms, resembling rooms within a shared residence, are organized into groups. Each classroom is connected to a communal “covered plaza,” a versatile space facilitating social interaction, individual study, research, and relaxation. These areas overlook quaint patios, creating a serene ambiance conducive to learning and personal growth.
