The building’s design harmoniously integrates with its natural surroundings. Positioned as a nexus between the agricultural landscape and the beach-facing built-up area, the school serves as a bridge between land and sea, establishing itself as a platform where these two environments converge in a harmonious dialogue.
The “Fai Bene” Elementary School design’s distinctiveness lies in its expansive, horizontal volume emphasized by a pitched roof, serving as a unifying element that ensures the structure’s visibility and distinctiveness in terms of typology and form.
The ground floor embodies a spacious, seamlessly interconnected communal area, akin to a large, fluid platform. Overlooking this area are classrooms conceived as rooms within a communal dwelling. In contrast, the second floor, housing laboratories, is designed as an experimental “workshop house.”
This expansive common platform hosts diverse activities, featuring distinct zones catering to various purposes. Bathed in natural light, this central space presents an intricate and bright landscape. It incorporates movable elements like boxes, furniture, and sliding curtains, delineating private, serene zones alongside areas for independent study, group activities, leisure, and casual gatherings.
Generous windows and inviting patios foster a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging a perceptual exchange. The substantial cantilevered roof further enhances this connection, creating sheltered, open spaces that give a sense of continuity between the interior and exterior.
